Let’s Get This RomCom On The Road!

Hi! I’m Kim. I thought I’d introduce myself. But, as every reader knows, it’s bad form to blurt out all of your backstory on page one. So, we’ll ease into it.

Who Are You?

I’m a writer. I live in Washington, T.S. (The State) with my wonderful family of three. Unless you count my husband and teenage daughter, then we’re five. The two black labs on the home page are Chancellor (older and wiser) and Loki (younger and wilier.) Super sweet, but Loki seeks out trouble. Don’t worry – I use the same parenting techniques on him that I do with my kid. So, he doesn’t really do his chores either.

So, You’re Writing a Romantic Comedy?

Yep. My novel is a romantic comedy and it’s a work in progress. (Don’t worry, my future agent, I’m totally on top of it. All smooth sailing from here!) It’s a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract delight.

Can Readers Really Help Shape Your RomCom?

Why, yes. Yes they can. In one of those EXTREMELY rare moments of writer’s block, I was shaking my fist and yelling “Darn it all! What in carnation will I name this bookstore?” Then a voice from my browser responded “it’s ‘tarnation,’ you idiot.” Really? Whatever.

Anywho, that gave me the idea of inviting my future readers to be part of the fun.

So, while I’m scribbling away on my keyboard, I’m making a note of places where I could use your input. I’m not asking you to write my scenes for me (yet) but rather to provide some names and other details that we can work into the story. Maybe the name of the local bar where they hang out. Or the subject of a painting on the wall. The date of someone’s birthday. The classic band featured on a tee shirt. I can’t promise everything will make it all the way through the brutal editing process, but we’ll get in as many as we can.

And when we’re not playing RomCom Mad Libs, we’ll do other fun stuff and I’ll provide some updates on the process of getting this novel out into the world and finding the people who will love it as much as I do. Let’s do this!

Drop me a note and let me know what you think of this crazy plan!

    1. Oh the memories… but if my memory serves me correctly (and it does), that was more of a sumo wrestling attack. A square off would imply the other party was VOLUNTARILY stepping up for the beating 😀 Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going back to the sanctuary of my Barbies…
